Our legal team recently secured a $3.45 million dollar verdict in a highly contested asbestos -related lawsuit. The case was filed on behalf of the family of James “Jim” Campbell Katcham, a retired millwright who tragically passed away from mesothelioma, a cancer caused by asbestos exposure in early 2022.

Mr. Katcham was exposed to asbestos while working with industrial equipment containing asbestos gaskets and packing manufactured by John Crane Inc. during his time at the DuPont Spruance plant between 1961 and 1979. The lawsuit highlighted how asbestos fibers, invisible to workers, posed significant health risks and the hazards were well-known to scientific communities by the 1960s. Despite this knowledge, John Crane failed to provide adequate warnings until 1983.

The Newport News jury found John Crane liable and awarded Mr. Katcham’s family $3.45 million dollars. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of holding companies accountable when their product harms individuals and families.
